2025 Nissan LEAF Overview

2025 Nissan LEAF

The 2025 Nissan LEAF is the last model year for the current-generation hatchback launched for 2018, the second generation since the EV’s introduction on our market as a 2011 model.

However, the next-generation LEAF will transition from a hatchback passenger car to a subcompact crossover, with all-new styling and a revised fully electric powertrain.

2025 Nissan LEAF Changes and Updates

After receiving a bunch of updates for the 2023 model year, the LEAF rolled into 2024 with no significant changes, and the 2025 model year is no different.

What the 2025 Nissan LEAF Does Well

  • The LEAF is currently one of the most affordable electric vehicles on sale in Canada. Only the Fiat 500e has a lower price.
  • The LEAF SV Plus offers decent driving range, which is perfect for city commuting while charging at home, as well as the occasional road trip if we plan out ahead where we can stop to charge.
  • A whole suite of advanced safety features is standard on the LEAF, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, automatic high beams and blind-spot monitoring. A 360-degree camera system and ProPILOT Assist semi-autonomous driving are also included, which is a nice touch.
  • Every LEAF is equipped with an eight-inch infotainment system, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and more. The infotainment interface is easy to use, even while driving.

What the 2025 Nissan LEAF Doesn’t Do Well

  • The LEAF’s 50 kW max DC charge speed at public stations isn’t great, nor is the almost-obsolete CHAdeMO connector, but those are non-issues if we constantly plug the car in at home. On the other hand, the 6.6 kW on-board charger makes for slow juice-ups on a level 2 outlet.
  • The LEAF gets from point A to point B without a hitch, but it’s not the most engaging car to drive. This isn’t a major shortcoming, but there are simply more amusing choices out there.
  • Cargo space isn’t as generous as those in small electric crossovers such as the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Niro and the Chevrolet Equinox EV, which cost only a few thousand dollars more. In addition, the rear seatbacks fold down, but don’t create a completely flat load floor.
  • While it’s not a big problem, the LEAF’s infotainment system is starting to get long in the tooth. The competition’s more sophisticated interfaces, presented on bigger screens, are more interesting.

2025 Nissan LEAF Competition

The Nissan LEAF competes with the Fiat 500e, the Honda Civic, the Hyundai Elantra, the Kia K4, the Mazda3, the MINI Cooper, the Nissan Sentra, the Nissan Versa, the Subaru Impreza, the Toyota Corolla, the Toyota Prius, the Volkswagen Golf and the Volkswagen Jetta.
