When the order books opened in early May, 10,000 consumers signed up within 24 hours and crashed the pre-order website. Less than a month later, there are more than 20,000 reservations.
If there was ever any doubt that regular folks like you and us are generally ready to embrace the coming of the EV, this is proof. The mad scramble for what is expected to be an “affordable” EV with a decent driving range demonstrates that VW is tapping into the wants and needs of average motorists. Let’s hope that Volkswagen can deliver their VW ID.3 hatchback without delays…
Two years ago, VW announced that this fully-electric compact car was to undercut the Tesla Model 3 by roughly $8,000 but that was in 2017 dollars. Remains to be seen if this will remain true when official pricing is announced later on this year but if this is the case, it could be the most affordable of its kind in the World.
And by the World, we mean to remind you that this VW ID.3 hatchback is not expected to come to the US or Canada any time soon. Our first ID. product is expected to be the Crozz SUV and it won’t arrive for about a year. The ID.3 might make its way here afterwards.
Volkswagen had hope to reach 30,000 reservations by this Fall’s Frankfurt Auto Show and it looks like they will easily reach that target. We very much look forward to learning more official details and specs on VW’s ID. family of EVs.
