Porsche Taycan: the power, the range and the speed

Porsche Taycan

We were in Stuttgart for the 70 years of sports car fascination when the official name for the Mission-E prototype was announced. Now, we have further details on what kind of electric monster, and Tesla P100D killer, the Taycan will be.

The powertrain will consist of two permanently synchronous motors driving both the front and rear wheels. Total system output is rated at more than 600 horsepower which will be enough to catapult the Taycan to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds. Oh, and if you’re a drag-racer, the Porsche will crush the 0-200 km/h in less than 12 seconds.

Porsche intends on selling up to 20,000 units annually in major markets such as China, the US and Western Europe. The Taycan will feature an 800-volt capable system meaning that it’ll require only 15 minutes of charging time for 400 km of range. Max range for the car will be in the vicinity of 500 km. All that is required now is a network that will be capable of feeding the beast.

The Porsche Taycan is expected for late 2019. As is usually the case, North America will likely have to wait until early 2020.
