The story of Vector

Do any of you guys remember Vector? Also known as Vector Motors Corporation? We recall the first time we heard of the American exotic car brand – André Agassi had bought one. At the time, André was a super cool dude, what with the Nike shoes and the hair…

All kidding aside, Vector, founded by Gerard Wiegert in 1978 under the name Vehicle Design Force, appeared on the car scene as a serious alternative to the established European supercar builders.

The W2 was launched that same year. Eleven years later, the W8, the one most of us remember, began production. Perhaps “production” is the wrong word as fewer than 20 were ever built. We could blame Agassi’s displeasure with his W8 and ensuing negative publicity for all but killing the brand.

The story does not end here as Wiegert launched a concept WX-3 in 1993 after which, MegaTech purchased a controlling interest in the company.

If you’re into the Vector story, there’s a video (Part 1) on YouTube that goes over many of the intricacies of the company.
