- A Sport Touring appearance package is offered on all trims
- Pricing starts at $26,098 in Canada
The 2020 Buick Encore GX just made its Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show, and pricing has been announced before it goes on sale this spring in General Motors dealerships across the country. It will rival crossovers such as the Mazda CX-30, the Jeep Compass, the Kia Seltos and the also-new Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The base Preferred trim level starts at $26,098 before freight and delivery charges of $1,800. For that sum, we get a front-wheel drivetrain and a turbocharged, 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that develops 137 horsepower as well as 162 pound-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm, matched to a continuously variable automatic transmission.
The 2020 Buick Encore GX Preferred also includes 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, a power driver’s seat, a remote starter, heated front seats, air conditioning, cruise control, an intelligent key, on-board 4G LTE Wi-Fi (data subscription required) as well as a Buick Infotainment System with eight-inch touchscreen, six speakers, SiriusXM compatibility and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.
Standard advanced safety features in all trim levels include forward collision alert with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection, land departure warning and lane keep assist as well as automatic high beams.
The Encore GX Preferred AWD is listed at $28,098 and swaps the base engine for a turbo 1.3-litre three-cylinder and a nine-speed automatic, good for 155 hp in addition to 174 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,500 rpm. It also gets a stereo amplifier and a more powerful heating system.
Next up, the $30,098 2020 Buick Encore GX Select AWD benefits from dual-zone climate control, a fold-down rear-seat armrest, lane change alert and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, a power liftgate with hands-free operation, roof rails and 18-inch alloys with high gloss dark android pockets.
Last but not least, the Essence AWD costs $32,598 and piles on an in-vehicle air ionizer, driver-side position memory with two presets, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 120-volt power outlet, a power front passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, chrome bumper trim as well as LED headlights and taillights.
Digging into the options list, every 2020 Buick Encore GX can be upgraded with a power sunroof, blind spot monitoring and rear park assist, while the Select and Essence variants can be equipped with navigation, SiriusXM 360L, adaptive cruise control, head-up display, a rear camera mirror and high-gloss wheels with chrome inserts. Available features in the Essence also include automatic park assist, a rear camera mirror, wireless phone charging, rain-sensing wipers and a Bose seven-speaker sound system.
Finally, the Sport Touring package option group can be added to every Encore GX, which tacks on body-colour mouldings, custom grille and 18-inch wheels and red accenting. A black roof can also be specified on the ST upgraded models. Fully loaded, the 2020 Buick Encore GX will reach the $40K mark.
