Mercedes-Benz won’t be playing nicely with their completely overhauled 2020 CLA. The Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 will arrive right around the same time as the regular CLA and it’ll be good.
We’re actually in Germany at this very moment putting the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA through its paces in Munich and the surrounding countryside. We’ve learned that the Mercedes-AMG 35 will be on display in New York, and this is excellent news.
While we cannot yet tell what it’s like to drive the CLA, we can say that the AMG CLA 35 will use the AMG A 35’s 302-horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, adjoining dual-clutch automatic gearbox with 7 speeds and 4MATIC AWD.
This is where we once more get to speculate. Although the Mercedes-AMG A 45 remains unconfirmed for North America, given our undying love for all things AMG, especially in Canada, we’re quite convinced that an AMG CLA 45 is far from out of the question.
Over the last few years, Mercedes-Benz’ two-tier AMG program has worked wonderfully well. AMG-light vehicles such as the “43” and “53” are quite popular and a logical step before AMG-heavy “63” vehicles.
This same two-tier setup will likely be applied to the new 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA and should Benz want to play hardball with the Audi RS 3 and BMW M2, an A 45 will come. Please.
