A MINI bearing the JCW letters has always meant good things. The addition of GP raises the fun factor a few notches and if we’re to believe the rumours, the next JCW GP will be nothing if not insane.
The previous 2013 MINI John Cooper Works GP was a quick little minion. It held 218-horsepower under its bonnet, 10 more that the JCW on which it was based. The GP was shod with numerous go-faster bits which enabled it to reach 100 km/h in just over 6 seconds. The next GP will be much more intense.
The interwebs are reporting that MINI is promising that the new GP’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine will produce more than 300 horsepower and likely a similar amount of torque thanks to an expected overboost function.
On the topic of rumors, the next MINI Countryman and Clubman JCW are expected to get the BMW X2 M35i’s which should be good for at least 300-horsepower as well. Will we be looking at a 350-horsepower MINI? A 4.5-second or less 0-100km/h sprint capable MINI? An AWD MINI John Cooper Works GP? So many questions remain.
While this is all speculation, the concrete facts are that it is coming at that only 3,000 will be produced. So far, the teaser pictures show a dual-wing spoiler, unique wheels and massive tailpipes.
Should it come to Canada, we’ll be surprised if it retails for less than $55,000.
