The heavy-duty Nissan Titan XD gets updated styling in addition to new comfort and convenience features, but its optional Cummins diesel engine has been shelved.
The 2020 Nissan Titan XD follows in the footsteps of the slightly smaller, light-duty Nissan Titan with many upgrades and enhancements, but in a more robust package for greater towing and payload capabilities. It also benefits from a slight gain in horsepower and torque, but the optional Cummins diesel engine is no longer offered.
Under the hood of the Titan XD, customers will get Nissan’s long-standing 5.6-litre Endurance V8 engine, which now develops 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque—or 10 ponies more than before. It’s connected to a new nine-speed automatic transmission, which should improve performance and fuel economy.
The Cummins 5.0-litre turbo-diesel V8, which produced 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, allowed for a maximum tow capacity of 12,710 pounds (5,765 kilograms) and a payload of 2,990 pounds (1,356 kilograms). With the gasoline V8, tow capacity in the 2019 model reached 10,950 pounds in the Crew Cab 4×4 variant.
Speaking of which, this is the only configuration left for the 2020 Nissan Titan XD, as the brand trimmed down the model lineup to concentrate on the most popular one. That means, no more single cab and King Cab body styles, which were already eliminated from the Canadian market, and no more 4×2 drivetrain. The Crew Cab’s bed is 6.5 feet long.
The Titan XD will be available in several trim levels, including S, SV, SL, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve, and every trim receives the Nissan Safety Shield 360 advanced driving aids, which includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and more.
Also new is an optional dual-panel panoramic sunroof, an available infotainment system with nine-inch touchscreen as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, an on-board WiFi hotspot (data subscription required) and a 485-watt, Fender 12-speaker sound system.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but the 2020 Nissan Titan XD will go on sale in early 2020.
