Less than a month ago, Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. unleashed its Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport Concept at the 2019 SEMA show. Interest and demand in the super truck was so overwhelming that Shelby has decided to the produce the Ford F-150 SSS.
Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American, said: “The Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport was initially an R&D exercise to build a street legal truck that could deliver blistering performance. The reactions from enthusiasts, the media and Shelby dealers were amazing. In fact, they petitioned us very hard to put it into production. Our team fast tracked the development process and we’ll begin manufacturing the super trucks in Las Vegas during the first quarter of 2020.”
Understanding why this truck got so much love is quite simple. All 2020 Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport will be four-wheel drive and be delivered with a V8 engine. It will be up to the buyer to decide if they want the naturally aspirated or supercharged version.
Also part of the package are a Shelby-specific lowered suspension, a performance exhaust system with accompanying booming exhaust note, unique wheels and big brakes. The exterior shell gets numerous aero bits, ram-air hood, stripes, badges while the interior custom leather seats along with other Shelby amenities
The boosted V8 will generate up to 770-horsepower, good enough to launch the F-150 to 60 mph in 3.45 seconds and cover the 0-100-0 sprint in only 8.3 seconds.
Pricing for the F-150 Super Snake Sport almost seems reasonable at $86,085 for the naturally aspirated V8 powered pickup. The supercharged 770-horsepower V8 starts at $93,385. Both prices include a well optioned Ford F-150. The trucks come with a 3 year/36,000-mile warranty.
250 of these trucks will be built and available for the US and Canada.
