Twelve trims weren’t enough for the 2020 Toyota RAV4 so now with have lucky number 13: RAV4 TRD Off-Road
When we first read the press release, some of us at MI got really excited. The new Toyota RAV4 is one of our favorite compact SUVs for all the right reasons. We also happen to be huge fans of almost anything TRD (especially TRD Pro) so the joining of both of these, yes, a 2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road, seems like a match made in Heaven.
The TRD Off-Road is built upon the already cool RAV4 Trail which retails for $38,890. The Trail includes a more rugged body style, 19-inch specific alloy wheels and Dynamic Torque Vectoring with Rear Driveline Disconnect. The TRD Off-Road, priced at $41,790, builds upon the Trail and adds unique 18-inch TRD wheels with Falken all-terrain tires, an off-road tuned suspension, LED fog lamps, TRD badging, and a JBL audio system.
Toyota coins the new 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road as a rugged trail-buster which essentially means that this vehicle is a TRD-light vehicle. We applaud Toyota for introducing this trim on its best-selling vehicle in the country but we think that they were too conservative when kitting out their new unit. We think they could take it up a notch or two to nudge the likes of the Jeep Cherokee but that’s just us.
