The press release is accompanied by the engine’s development story.
The Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine.

This video has now convinced us that the all-new 2021 Acura TLX Type S will be the real deal. When Honda engineers are allowed to do their thing, one can only expect amazing results. Case in point: the 10th generation Honda Civic Type R. The fact that some of the team members involved in the CTR’s development were implicated in the Type S is proof enough.
The big news is that the single twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine is new from the ground up for the Type S. It was designed to be compact to fit in the TLX’s engine bay. This was achieved via low-profile cylinder heads and positioning the turbocharger above the transmission. The engine is also lightweight thanks to its all-aluminium construction. Finally, this is a robust motor capable of withstanding severe use as it features forged steel crankshaft and forged steel connecting rods.
This V6 produces 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,400 rpm with up to 15.1 psi of boost. The TLX Type S isn’t only about raw power as it includes Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. As well, the engine is fitted with new engine mounts and Active Vibration Control (AVC) which cancels out vibrations from the chassis and the engine.
The 2021 Acura TLX Type S arrive in showrooms on June 30th.
