The 2021 Honda Civic Type R starts at $37,495 before freight and delivery charges.
The Type R Limited Edition is listed from $43,995 and is now on sale.
Both Type R variants are equipped with a turbo 2.0L four good for 306 horsepower.
The 2021 Honda Civic Type R is arriving in dealerships across the United States today, but the big news is the low-volume Limited Edition that cranks up the compact car’s performance level by another notch or two.
The Type R LE, which recently broke a lap record for front-wheel-drive cars on the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, is obviously based on the 2021 Honda Civic Type R, which itself is a carryover model after the performance hatch received upgrades for the 2020 model year. The Limited Edition adds track-focused sharpness with lightweight BBS forged aluminum wheels, two-piece floating brake rotors up front and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The car’s Active Damper System and electric power steering have been reprogrammed as well.
Reducing weight even further, Honda left 28 pounds of sound-deadening material out of the LE as well as the cargo cover, the rear-seat heater ducts and the rear wiper. With the lighter rims, 46 pounds have been shaven off the curb weight. The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is painted the colour of our choice among one, Phoenix Yellow, although gloss black covers the roof, the mirror caps and the hood intake vent.
Every Type R is equipped with an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and a weighted shift knob that were introduced for the 2020MY, along with the Honda Sensing suite of advanced driving safety aids such as forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
Both the 2021 Honda Civic Type R and the Limited Edition variant are equipped with a turbocharged, 2.0L inline-four that develops 306 horsepower at 6,500 rpm as well as 295 pound-feet of torque peaking between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. A six-speed manual transmission is the only way to send power to the front wheels, which avoid being overwhelmed with the help of a helical limited-slip differential. Three drive modes are available: Comfort, Sport and +R. the Hyundai Veloster N, the MINI John Cooper Works 3-Door and the Volkswagen Golf R can be considered the Type R’s main competitors.
The Civic Type R starts at $37,495 before adding a $995 freight and delivery charge, or $500 more than the outgoing 2020 model. Only 600 units of the Civic Type R Limited Edition will be sprinkled across the U.S., carrying an MSRP of $43,995. Obviously, if the LE variant interests us, Honda is urging us to run to our local dealer sooner than later.
Canadian pricing for the 2021 Honda Civic Type R has yet to be announced.
