Mazda released a teaser video with an engine revving, a caption, and the July 8th date.
The caption reads “Power Comes To Those Who Wait”.
We can only assume we are talking about the Mazda3 Turbo
Rumors surfaced a few weeks ago that Mazda was planning a new Mazda3 Turbo version powered by the company’s 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Now, it appears Mazda is going to come through.
Of course, we are speculating here. The video above just has an engine revving, a caption that reads “Power Comes To Those Who Wait”, and a date of July 8, 2020. So, that means that Mazda has something with a powerful engine coming in less than two weeks.
What else could it be except a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo?
A turbocharged Mazda MX-5? We’ll take that. But since Mazda has a Mazda3 TCR car racing, it’s only natural they would want to up the production Mazda3’s performance cred.
The 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder would certainly accomplish that task. It packs 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque in the Mazda CX-5 Signature, Mazda6, and Mazda CX-9, and would make the new Mazda3 Turbo quite a bit quicker than a Volkswagen GTI or Subaru WRX. It would be inching closer to Honda Civic Type R territory. It’s a strong possibility that Mazda opts to combine the turbo engine with i-ACTIV all-wheel drive.
What we hope is that Mazda unveils exactly that. A turbocharged Mazda3 with 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, AWD, and a more agressive design that differentiates it from other Mazda3 models.
