The new Outdoor and top-line Limited will get the 2.5-litre engine.
Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist system gains Lane Centring Assist
All get a new front grille and wheel designs.
The Subaru Crosstrek strikes a perfect balance between an SUV and a compact car and has proven to be highly appreciated by the buying public. Launched for the 2018 model year, the current Crosstrek gets a subtle facelift and a coveted boost in power for 2021.
Despite the mild upgrades, Subaru has not increased the 2021 Crosstrek’s base price. It is still powered by 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Subaru BOXER engine that develops 152 horsepower and 145 lb.-ft. of torque and includes Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a Lineartronic CVT transmission. Two trims, the Outdoor and Limited, will be equipped with the more potent 2.5-litre direct-injection Subaru BOXER engine that provides 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Crosstrek has few, or many competitors. Among compact cars with AWD, there’s the Mazda3, and that’s about it. Among subcompact crossovers, we find the Ford Ecosport, the Mazda CX-3, the Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax, Jeep Renegade, Nissan Qashqai, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and RVR, and that about covers it.
Here’s a look at the five versions of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Convenience – $23,795
The car still features 17-inch wheels, automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch infotainment display, and more, and the 6-speed manual gearbox.
With the optional CVT, pricing rises to $25,795 as it includes X-Mode and Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology For 2021, the latter has gained Lane Centring Assist.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Touring – $26,195
The Touring benefits from fog lights, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SUBARU STARLINK Connected Services, and more.
Once more, with the CVT comes EyeSight and it is preiced from $28,195.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Outdoor – $29,995
This trim is all-new for 2021. Along with all the Touring’s equipment, it receives the 2.5-litre Subaru BOXER engine and the CVT. Visually, it differs from the others with its gun metallic coloured front grille accent, exterior mirror caps, badging, fog light cover accents and a shark fin antenna. You’ll also noticed unique and aggressive side cladding, dark grey painted 17-inch wheels, and an optional and unique to the Outdoor Plasma Yellow Pearl exterior colour.
The Outdoor’s interior gets yellow and gun metallic trim accents, yellow stitching and all-weather soft-touch seating surfaces.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport – $28,795
Here, we return to the 2.0-litre and 6-speed manual transmission. It gets a sunroof, power driver’s seat, the heated steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen display and more.
With EyeSight and CVT, the price jumps to $31,395
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Limited – $34,495
The top-line Crosstrek earns the 2.5-litre Subaru BOXER engine and the CVT, and EyeSight. Furthermore, it also gets a proximity key with push-button start, leather seating surfaces, and more.
At an even $30,000 in Canada, the Outdoor trim has enormous potential. We suspect it will be very popular.
