2021 Volkswagen Atlas Will Get An Available Basecamp Accessory Line

A new Basecamp accessory line for the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas will give it that rugged look

  • Last year’s Atlas Basecamp concept served as the test-bed for the accessories.

  • The goal of the accessories is for distinctive styling cues, not for serious off-roading.

As we all know, the vast majority of SUVs never travel more than a few meters off the beaten path other than pulling into the local fruit stand’s gravel parking lot. Even so, we all love the rugged and capable SUV look. It is this desire to dress up our family haulers for the road less traveled that has brought Volkswagen to introduce the Basecamp accessory line for the 2021 Atlas.

Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Concept: For When The Soccer Pitch Is In The Mountains

It was at last year’s New York Auto Show that Volkswagen unveiled the Atlas Basecamp concept. We quite liked the concept as did many members of the public. In fact, Hein Schafer, Volkswagen of America marketing executive, said that: “The public interest and customer enthusiasm sparked by the Atlas Basecamp concept created a strong business case to further explore off-road-themed components for production.”

The styling package, recommended for Atlas SUVs with the R-Line group and trailer hitch, was designed by Air Design. It features textured two-tone satin silver front bumper guard, fender flares with integrated splash guards, side door rocker panels and rear valance. It also includes “Basecamp” badges and can be completed with 17-inch fifteen52 Traverse MX wheels.

Although it may change nothing as far as the Atlas’ off-road capabilities, we love the look.
