The Maverick will mark the return of the small pickup for Ford.
According to Ford, it’s “The truck you didn’t see coming is coming.”
Pickups are a religion in North America. While full-size pickups rule, midsize models continue to prove themselves as versatile alternatives to the big trucks, and interest is growing. A new small pickup segment is quickly gaining attention and Ford is about to reveal the Maverick.
On June 8th, Ford will introduce what may rapidly become a go-between for many truck lovers who need something capable and right-sized for urban areas. The compact Maverick will share its underpinnings with the Ford Bronco Sport. This means that most versions will likely be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine while upper trims will probably feature the more powerful and refined turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and its 250 horsepower. A hybrid version is also a possibility.
Unlike the Bronco Sport, the Maverick is expected to be available with a FWD version which could indicate that an ultra-affordable $25,000-ish “truck” will return to the market and properly replace the original Ranger.
We’ll know more about the new 2022 Ford Maverick on June 8th. We have a date with Ford ahead of the official reveal so we’ll have all the details ready for consumption when the embargo lifts.
