It is meant to pay tribute to the Infiniti FX.
The QX55 will be revealed via social media on November 11, 2020
Back in 2002, Infiniti introduced the FX (which became the QX70) as its entry in the sport-luxury crossover segment. The Infiniti QX55 draws inspiration from the FX and is poised to take on other “coupe” versions of popular SUVs.
In fact, Infiniti claims that the QX55 will herald “the brand’s return to the luxury crossover coupe segment it created almost two decades ago.” We’ve already seen the QX55 as it was revealed to journalists at last year’s 30 Years Of Infiniti event last October. We can’t share what we saw but if you’re guessing it is related to the Infiniti QX50, then you might be right.
The teaser image released by Infiniti reveals little more than a hatch with a pronounced forward angle at the top. This, and Infiniti’s description of the vehicle’s “sleek profile of a sports coupe” tells us all that it will be a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the BMW X4.
If it is based on the QX50, then it should share its powertrain, specifically a VC-T turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. This means that FWD will be standard in the US (AWD standard in Canada) and that power transmission will be done by a CVT.
We’ll all get to see it live on social media on November 11, 2020, at 5:55 PM (PST). The 2022 QX55 will arrive in showrooms across North America next spring.
