The Hyundai Motor Group is deadly serious about its desire to become a global leader in electrification. It already offers a few interesting EVs but for those still on the fence about taking the electric plunge, Kia’s got a new Sorento PHEV that will deliver EV range, performance, capability, and value.
The 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine combined with a 66.9 kW electric motor. The total combined system output is a compelling 261 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Thanks to the 13.8 kWh battery, the Sorento will be able to cover up to 51 km without petrol.
The Sorento PHEV will exclusively be offered with AWD. The base $44,995 EX is priced $5 more than the Toyota RAV4 Prime, a smaller but still considerable opponent. The next trim up is the EX+ priced from $50,595. It includes a number of sophisticated driving aids, a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, heated 2nd-row seats, and more.
