2022 Lexus ES Gets Touchscreens, Dynamic Handling Pack

More safety, better tech for ES

Lexus has just introduced a refreshed version of the ES model. The changes include new headlights, a new touchscreen display, a handling package, and, for the first time, an F Sport model for the hybrid version of the sedan.

Upgrades for the cabin of the Lexus ES start with moving the screens (standard 8.0, optional 12.3-inch) forward by 4.3-inches. They’re closer to the driver and they have touch functionality for those not wanting to use the Lexus remote touch interface. The moved screens mean a new dash design to accommodate that Lexus says makes the cabin more seamless.

Lexus Saftey Sense+ is upgraded from 2.0 to 2.5, which means enhancements to the cameras and millimetre-wave radar sensors that give the pre-collision system, pedestrian and cyclist detection, as well as frontal collision warnings more effective range. The system also gains Intersection Turning Assist, which can help avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle or with a pedestrian when turning left. Radar cruise has also been reprogrammed for smoother overtaking and gets automatic speed reduction for certain types of curve.

On the outside, all trims of the 2022 ES (except F Sport) get a new grille, with a mesh that’s filled with concentric L shapes. Along with the new grille are new standard bi-LED headlights with dynamic auto-levelling. New wheels are also available.

Changes in the name of handling include a rear suspension brace to enhance rigidity and improve handling and ride comfort. The brake pedal itself has been enlarged “to improve foot stability and confidence,” while gas models get brake booster revisions. ES350 F Sport gets a new Dynamic Handling Package with Sport+ drive mode, adaptive variable suspension, and intuitive park assist.

Lastly, two new paint shades will be offered, and ES300h F Sport adds F Sport badges and trim to the hybrid model for the first time. Expect pricing closer to the fall, when the 2022 Lexus ES is expected at dealers.
