2022 Nissan Rogue Gains a New 1.5-litre 3-Cylinder VC Turbo Engine

The new 1.5-litre 3-Cylinder VC Turbo engine will improve the Nissan Rogue’s performance and fuel economy

  • It will produce 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

  • It is derived from the Altima’s 2.0-litre VC Turbo engine.

  • The 2.5-litre engine remains for the base models.

  • It arrives in early 2022.

Nissan’s best-seller has been the Rogue for a number of years. The relatively large compact SUV delivers plenty of room and loads of value. For the 2022 model year, the Rogue will get a new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder variable compression turbo engine.

The goal behind this move is to increase not only the Rogue’s appeal but deliver more performance and efficiency. With 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, the 3-cylinder engine’s output represents an 11% and 24% increase respectively over the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine which will remain available for the base models.

“As the Nissan NEXT transformation continues, the 2022 Nissan Rogue’s all-new powertrain is a proof point of the company’s commitment to investing in its lineup and improving the company’s product, brand, and sales power in North America,” said Steve Milette, President, Nissan Canada Inc. “Rogue’s new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo adds real-world value while providing more thrill behind the wheel.”

Fuel efficiency is high on all automakers’ priority lists. With the new engine, Nissan projects that the 2022 Rogue, with AWD, will consume on average 7.6L/100km. Driving pleasure is also important which is why the Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) has been revised with a 17% wider gear ratio coverage and with 32% less friction for better acceleration feel and enhanced fuel economy.
