2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro’s Range Gets a 20-Mile Boost to 280 miles

More range is always good news for any EV and is a bonus for the popular Volkswagen ID.4


  • All versions get range increases for 2022.

  • The Pro S version with dual motors goes from 240 miles to 245 miles of range.


Although charging infrastructures continue to grow, partially negating the need for massive range, range anxiety remains an issue for many potential EV buyers. Those interested in purchasing a new 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 get bonus range extensions over the 2021 model year vehicle.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Review: The People’s Electric SUV

All versions of the ID.4 get range boosts starting with the base RWD Pro. It goes from 260 miles to 280 miles, representing the biggest increase. The Pro S receives an EPA-estimated range of 268 miles from 250 miles.

Moving to AWD models, the increases are far more modest however every mile is a bonus. The Pro was rated at an EPA-estimated 249 miles and is now rated at 251 miles. Meanwhile, the top-trim AWD Pro S goes from 240 miles of range to an EPA-estimated 245 miles.

We learned a short while ago that DC fast-charging speeds had also improved for 2022. It is now capable of 135 kW from 125 kW for the 2021 ID.4.

Pricing has also swollen slightly from the 2021 to the 2022 model year. The base price was set at $39,995 and is now $40,760 in the US.
