Images shared on the web seem to confirm the presence of a 5.2-litre V8 engine for the Raptor.
This should mean that the Raptor, should the 5.2-litre be of the Predator type, will have well over 700 horsepower.
If you recall, back in February of last year, Ford Raptor fans briefly fell silent. At the reveal of the then-new super-truck, Ford reintroduced the turbocharged EcoBoost V6 as the Raptor’s powertrain. Fans, expecting a V8 were slightly disappointed, if only for a moment. Ford reps quickly reassured all that a V8 was indeed coming.
And it’s on its way. Under the proposed Raptor R moniker, the V8-powered truck has but one target in mind and it’s the reining power champion, the Ram TRX. A recently posted image on Instagram of a Raptor build sheet has given us our first hint as to which V8 it will get.

The image clearly shows “5.2L” which leaves us with two possibilities. The first less likely option is the Mustang GT350’s naturally-aspirated version. With 526 horsepower, it would be far from enough to tango with the TRX, and too close output-wise to the EcoBoost’s 450 horsepower.
Therefore we’re quite certain we’re looking at the Predator version of the 5.2-litre V8 from the GT500. With 760 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft. of torque, the Raptor R would finally put the hurt on the TRX.
