The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan starts at $76,050 in the United States and at $89,195 in Canada, freight and delivery charges included.
The sedan lineup consists of the EQE 350, the EQE 500 and the AMG EQE.
Driving range for the EQE 500 4MATIC is rated at 260 miles or 418 km.
The automotive landscape is evolving, as usual, and luxury brands are trying new ways to reel in new customers while sticking with certain traditions to keep loyal customers happy. German brand Mercedes-Benz has committed itself to an all-electric future, like many others, and one of its newest products is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, which arrived on time for AJAC’s annual EcoRun event.
EcoRun gathers automotive journalists from across Canada as well as energy-efficient vehicles for a couple of days of the road to promote the benefits of eco-driving. It’s also a good opportunity to test out some new models and technologies, such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4MATIC sedan.
The mid-range model in the electric sedan’s lineup that also includes the EQE 350 and the AMG EQE, the EQE 500 relies on two electric motors, creating a 4MATIC all-wheel drivetrain, which combine to produce 402 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque. The automaker claims a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a 0-to-100 km/h of 4.7 seconds.
Its 90.6 kWh battery pack can be recharged at speeds of up to 170 kW at fast-charge stations, and takes about 10.5 hours to fully charge on a Level 2 plug. Range is calculated at 260 miles or 418 kilometres on a full charge.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4MATIC also boasts city/highway/combined efficiency ratings of 40.2/41.0/40.6 kWh/100 km or 25.0/25.5/25.2 kWh/100 km.
This year’s EcoRun drive took us from Vancouver to Kelowna, passing through Kamloops, and my leg aboard the EQE 500 was an uneventful one, but included many uphills and few downhills. I ended up with an average of 26.6 kWh/100 miles or 16.5 kWh/100 km, among the worst of those recorded for the luxury sedan.
Average (kWh/100 miles) | Average (kWh/100 km) | Range Projection (miles) | Range Projection (km) | |
Best average | 22.4 | 13.9 | 402 | 652 |
My average | 26.6 | 16.5 | 341 | 549 |
Worst average | 38.6 | 24.0 | 235 | 378 |
What a smooth ride the EQE offers. It seems unperturbed by most road imperfections, and yet when the Sport mode is activated—which I only tried out for a few moments as to not ruin my eco-driving efforts—the sedan firms up a little and the electric motors become a lot more reactive to throttle input. This car can be fast and fairly agile, or relaxed and cushy.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE we tested doesn’t feature the massive wall-to-wall Hyperscreen, limited to a 12.3-inch digital driver instrument cluster and a still-big 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen hosting the infotainment system and climate controls. The Hyperscreen combining the 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster, the 17.7-inch infotainment screen and the passenger-side 12.3-inch screen is a $9,900 option on the Canadian-spec EQE 500 and AMG EQE sedans.

Riding on a long 122.8-inch or 3,120 mm wheelbase, the EQE maximises interior floor space with short overhangs and a flat surface, providing rear-seat occupants with plenty of legroom. The low roofline does create fairly fat front pillars, but we get used to it after a few minutes behind the wheel.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE pricing starts at $76,050 for the base 288-horsepower EQE 350+ trim in the U.S., a rear-wheel-drive variant that isn’t available in Canada, while the EQE 350 4MATIC starts at $79,050 in the U.S. and at $89,195 in Canada. The EQE 500 4MATIC retails from $88,550 and $98,595, respectively, while the 617-horsepower AMG EQE rings in at $108,050 and $125,095. All prices include freight and delivery charges.
