Mazda has added start-stop to 2.5 NA engine
Suna Edition joins lineup for 2024
For 2024, the Mazda CX-5 gets a new Suna special edition along with improved fuel economy. The base price shifts slightly as well, up around $1,000 to $32,250 in Canada.
The new grade is the Suna Edition, which sits just under the 2024 CX-5 Signature at the top of the model lineup. The word is Japanese for sand, and it comes in the new Zircon Sand Metallic exterior paint that is combined with terracotta upholstery and stitching along with gunmetal accents. The Kuro Edition, Mazda’s previous nod to its home country’s craftsmanship, remains in the lineup with its available garnet red leather cabin.
CX-5’s fuel economy bump comes from the addition of i-Stop start-stop technology that shuts the engine off when possible. It improves the official figures for the 2.5L 187 hp non-turbo model from 9.8 L/100 km city, 7.9 highway to 9.1/7.7. All CX-5s get a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive remains standard equipment.
The rest of the model line remains the same, starting with the $32,250 GX trim. Next is GS and the GS Comfort Package, Kuro Edition, GT, Sport Design, Suna, and the $44,950 Signature. Sport Design, Suna, and Signature all include Mazda’s 256 hp 2.5L turbo four which has its fuel economy figure unchanged from 2023 at 10.8/8.7.
Mazda said that the 2024 CX-5 should be in dealers later this summer.
