2024 Mazda MX-5 Gets New LSD, Improved Steering

Miata gets driver upgrades for 2024

  • The 2024 MX-5 gets a bunch of small updates to improve the package

  • Cosmetic, functional, and go-faster changes

Mazda is upgrading the MX-5 for 2024 with a new limited-slip diff, some mild styling changes, a new paint option, and a new steering rack.

The new differential is offered on GS-P grades and higher. Mazda describes it as a conical clutch LSD and says it has been tuned for “a more progressive locking action” with a cam mechanism that gives it different locking ramp angles on acceleration and deceleration.

Power stays the same. The 2.0L four makes 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque.

A new steering rack has less internal friction, along with electric assist recalibration. Mazda says it delivers smoother steering action, a better on-center feel, and greater precision in hard cornering. Other electronic changes include a track mode for the stability control system on GS-P that loosens up the reins for drivers on closed circuits.

The cosmetic changes include new headlights with a revised DRL, and new taillights. The new colour is Aero Grey Metallic, a cool tone. Inside the cabin, Mazda has added a larger 8.8-inch screen with some extra touch capability. It also has hands-free commands for HVAC and other controls. Lastly, the center console gets extra padding for more occupant comfort.

Pricing for the 2024 Mazda MX-5 starts from $34,900 for a soft top model. GS-P starts from $38,900 or $41,900 for the hard top. The priciest car is an RF GT with Grand Sport package for $48,600. The new model goes on sale this winter.
