Before we start, back in 2008, the then new 2009 Nissan GT-R for less than $90,000. Based on recent rumours, a 2024 Nissan Z Nismo might retail for as much as $80,000 and that seems somewhat expensive.
Expensive because, let’s face, the new Nissan Z is a nice car but for about $50,000 to start (the base Z Sport), the competition is fierce. And it gets even more competitive when hovering in the $80,000 price range. First, though, let’s talk about a few Z Nismo specs.
Nissan Weighs Prospects of Manual Option for Z Nismo, Prioritizing Performance
The Z Nismo version elevates the performance metrics to 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, marking gains of 20 horsepower and 34 lb-ft. Available exclusively with an automatic transmission, it features enhanced clutches and fine-tuned engine and transmission settings. According to Nissan, it can shift nearly 50% quicker than the standard Z’s automatic gearbox and offers a new Sport+ shift mode for more aggressive downshifts. The updated aerodynamics, featuring a ducktail spoiler, generate greater downforce, while the 19-inch Rays wheels fitted with wider Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 tires provide improved grip.
Though the specifications are interesting, the estimated price, based on autoblog’s information, opens up numerous possibilities. One of them is a Porsche 718 Cayman, but not an S. The Porsch-a might not be as fast or powerful but it’s a Porsch-a… Among other options we find the Toyota GR Supra, the BMW M2, the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse, and maybe one or two others.
Now, it depends on how you feel about the Nissan Z however for many if not most, at the very least, the Porsche, M2, and Dark Horse offer a deeper and more involving drive. And if we throw in the GR-upra, these four cars are available with a manual transmission for true enthusiasts, although that may change…
Obviously, we’ll have to wait for the final details and perhaps a first drive to come to a real conclusion, but in the meantime, a new $80k 2024 Nissan Z Nismo seems like a tough sell…
