2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Review: The Best Luxury Sporty SUV?

The Porsche Cayenne gets a few tweaks for 2024 including a new hood and wider front fenders.

  • For 2024, the Porsche Cayenne receives some subtle aesthetic changes.

  • Pricing starts at $95,535.

  • Consumers can opt for the regular body or the Coupe model.

  • Plug-in hybrid powertrain versions are offered.

By creating the luxury sports SUV segment in the early 2000s with the Cayenne, Porsche developed real expertise in this niche and established its reputation. So much so that today, people would opt for a Cayenne long before more expensive luxury SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga or Aston Martin DBX. Simply because the Cayenne does the job better.

New features for 2024

Introduced in 2018, the third generation continues in 2024 with a few changes that may seem subtle. It will certainly take a discerning eye to recognize the aesthetic changes made to the Porsche Cayenne in 2024. Indeed, the changes are subtle. Since the visual evolution is very gradual, it has the effect of preventing premature aging. In this way, pre-owned models don’t look completely outdated just a few years after leaving the dealership. In 2024, the Cayenne received a new hood and slightly wider fenders. The lights and headlamps were also redesigned. Interestingly, the Cayenne can be fitted with HD-Matrix LED headlamps. This optional technology is designed to optimize front vision and lighting without dazzling other road users. This system can be adjusted, for example, when passing another vehicle, on a construction site, etc.

A V6 that’s more than enough, a V8 that makes you dream

The Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine. This is a well-known and proven engine within the automotive group. The engine develops 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. Performance is more than acceptable, and acceleration is brisk.

Despite the efficiency and rationality of the V6 engine, we secretly dream of finding the V8 engine under the hood of the Cayenne. In the case of the S version, power rises to 468 hp, and to 650 hp if you opt for the Turbo GT version. What’s more, it boasts a unique sound.

In terms of roadholding, the Cayenne is virtually beyond reproach. Its solidity and poise on the road are immediately apparent. As well as being very comfortable, it remains sporty. It has everything you could want in a sporty luxury SUV.

An “eco-friendly” version

The Porsche Cayenne is no exception to the electrification trend. Indeed, while waiting for a 100% electric version to be unveiled soon, consumers can still fall back on plug-in hybrid versions whose performance can be downright impressive. For the 2024 model year, battery density increases from 17.9 kWh to 25.9 kWh. However, the official electric range has not yet been disclosed. Expect a few dozen kilometers at most. In the case of the Cayenne, electric technology is used for performance purposes. In terms of combined power, the Turbo E-Hybrid model develops no less than 729 hp. Three models are available: E-Hybrid, S E-Hybrid and Turbo E-Hybrid. Consumers can choose between the two body styles.

In its plug-in hybrid versions, the Porsche Cayenne 2024 is not eligible for government credits for the purchase of an electrified vehicle.

Why choose the Coupé version?

In the midst of the coupé SUV craze that has proliferated since the BMW X6, Porsche couldn’t resist offering this type of model with the Cayenne. Essentially, the rear section has been redesigned and truncated. The aim is to create a sportier look with a more receding roofline. In reality, however, it’s rather pointless. Aesthetically, we find the Cayenne to be a handsome luxury sports SUV from the outset. Its looks are classic and efficient. In our opinion, the Coupé version adds nothing. It’s also worth noting that we’re losing out on cargo volume. The Cayenne can hold 772 litres, while the Cayenne Coupé can only hold 592 litres. This means a loss of 140 L of cargo space. Let’s not forget that an SUV is basically a practical vehicle. Not only is it not more aesthetically pleasing, it’s also not more practical. If you want a Turbo GT version, however, you’ll have to opt for the Cayenne Coupé.

Endless options

With a starting price of $95,535, the Porsche Cayenne is certainly not for everyone. And that’s without counting the few options that will cost you several tens of thousands of dollars, and that will only take you a few seconds to tick off on the order form. The model we tested cost close to $140,000. It came with a number of optional features, such as black and chalk leather interior ($4,770), steerable rear axle ($1,470), adaptive suspension ($2,720), 21-inch wheels ($3,820), Burmester sound system ($6,620) and technology package ($4,200). Keep in mind, then, that each optional item will cost you. Very expensive. You’ll even be asked to pay for innocuous items that should come as standard, such as the soft-closing doors ($820), the design of the fuel filler cap ($190) and the heated windscreen ($710).

But you haven’t seen anything yet. The Cayenne Turbo GT starts at just under $250,000.

In a nutshell

In conclusion, we greatly appreciate the Porsche Cayenne 2024 for its solidity, its poise on the road and the pleasure it provides behind the wheel. We’d choose it over other, more expensive luxury SUVs, because the Cayenne recipe works like a charm. Although we secretly dream of the powerful V8 engine, the turbocharged V6 does the job perfectly.
