2024 Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport Sharp Launches in Tokyo

STI gives WRX mild tweaks

  • Mostly cosmetic, but still cool

  • Subaru will run a lottery for the 500 units

You’ll have to win the lottery to buy the latest Subaru STI model. Not because of the price tag, which is quite reasonable, but because the company is only making 500 copies of the 2024 Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport #.

If you’re hoping for another fire-breathing STI that could make it here too, either now or in 15 years, you’re out of luck. Power comes from the 2.4L turbo-four you’ll find in every other new WRX, and the output is still 271 hp.

The # in the name, which Subaru means sharp not hashtag (music, not social media), is a bit misleading. Though there are new strut tower braces and a new transmission cooler, most of the sharpening is visual and not mechanical.

Subaru has painted it in a lovely shade called Offshore Blue Metallic, and fitted Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires on 19-inch wheels exclusive to the car. The black-painted wheels are matched with black grille accents, black mirror caps, and a trunk spoiler. Plus the badges and even the roof antenna are painted black.

The cabin gets new Recaro buckets with red STI logos, along with silver stitching scattered around. The dash, center console, and armrests get the same suede material used on he seats.

Oh, and Subaru says it’s quieter inside because there’s some extra sound-insulating material in the trunk.

To get a chance to buy one of the 500 cars, which will retail for around $43k, you’ll need to buy a ticket. Subaru is running the lottery until the 28th of this month.
