2025 BMW M3, 3 Series Get New Tech, More Power

BMW gives the 3er some updates for 2025

  • More power for top models

  • Latest iDrive adds OTA updates

BMW is refreshing the 3 Series models for 2025, including the M3. The sports sedans get BMW’s latest operating system and revised 48V hybrid tech, and for the M340i and M3 Competition? More horsepower and torque.

The BMW 3 Series got a facelift for 2023, so the changes for the 2025 3 Series aren’t massive. Still, the upgrade to iDrive 8.5, which allows for over-the-air updates and has a new home screen and new widgets, will likely still be appreciated. The sedans will have some new paint colours and wheel options, and the dashboard and steering wheel have been tweaked cosmetically.

Since the BMW M3 didn’t get that facelift two years ago, it gets a tiny one now on top of the cabin changes. You’ll have to look closely, as the changes are limited to the accent lights in the headlights and new finishes for the wheels.

At least there are some more substantial changes under the hood. The 330i’s 2.0L four still makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, but changes to the 48V starter generator mild hybrid system mean 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. That’s nine more horses and 29 more torques.

BMW says it has also made some improvements to the chassis. Stiffer rear damper mounts are just one change (BMW didn’t detail the others) that the company says will improve ride comfort and handling.

The 2025 M3’s 3.0L twin-turbo I6 is now offered as the 473 hp rear-drive model with a six-speed, the 503 hp rear-drive eight-speed-auto M3 Competition, and the M3 Competition xDrive AWD which has 20 hp more for a total of 523. Peak torque of 479 lb-ft is now offered over a slightly wider rev range. The M3 CS is gone.

Production starts this summer. The 2025 BMW 330i starts from $56,900, the M340i from $69,900. The 2025 BMW M3 is $92,250, the M3 Competition xDrive $99,200.
