The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray at a glance:
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is the first hybrid Corvette
The electric motor powers the front axle while the traditional V8 drives the rear wheels, enabling all-wheel drive
E-Ray total output is 655 horsepower, and accelerates to 100 km/h as quickly as the Z06
It is not a plug-in hybrid vehicle, and the battery cannot be recharged
Strengths:
An exotic-looking design inspired by the Z06
Surreal performance thanks to the hybrid AWD system
Easy to drive every day, even in difficult conditions
Weaknesses:
The detachable hardtop is difficult to remove and store
Very limited cargo space
The electric motor does not deliver perceptible gains in handling
A new era for the Corvette
The eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette marked a radical turning point with its mid-engine layout, delivering a level of agility and balance previous generations had never achieved. The 2025 Corvette E-Ray pushes this philosophy even further by adding an electric motor on the front axle, creating the first all-wheel-drive Corvette and the first hybrid Corvette in history.
It borrows several aesthetic elements from the Corvette Z06, including a wider, lower stance, massive rear tires, and a more aggressive aerodynamic treatment. These elements give the Corvette E-Ray more visual muscle compared with the Stingray and, like the potent Z06, bring it strikingly close to the look of a much more expensive exotic vehicle. Conversely, the E-Ray preserves the very essence of what a Corvette is meant to be: performance, value, and accessibility.

An exotic look, but everyday compromises
What immediately impresses about the E-Ray is its appearance. Its widened fenders, chiselled front splitter, sculpted wheel arches, and side air intakes give it a powerfully sophisticated presence. The exclusive wheels (with optional carbon fibre) and the sharp front diffuser reinforce this exotic-car image.
But this styling comes at a cost. The removable hardtop on our E-Ray Coupe test vehicle is difficult to handle. It must be positioned very precisely in the rear trunk, and once stored, there is virtually no room left for luggage. Reinstalling it also requires patience. If you enjoy driving roof-off whenever possible, the convertible version is likely the more logical choice.

Z06-level performance… but friendlier
The 2025 E-Ray is powered by the familiar 6.2-litre LT2 V8 engine, well known to Corvette enthusiasts, sending 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The innovation lies up ahead, where a 160-horsepower electric motor delivering 125 lb-ft of torque drives the front wheels. Combined output reaches 655 horsepower.

The result: the E-Ray hits 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and completes the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds — a time usually reserved for exceptional cars commanding two or even three times the price of this hybrid Corvette.
And yet, it does not plug in. Its 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, housed in the central tunnel, recharges automatically through regenerative braking and coasting. This is not about an ultra-powerful electric motor or thousands of electric horsepower. If the E-Ray is so quick, it is partly because it transfers power from both motors to the pavement with extreme efficiency.
The combination of the rear-mounted V8 and the front electric motor makes the E-Ray the first all-wheel-drive (AWD) Corvette. Its intelligent e-AWD system automatically distributes torque between the axles based on drive mode, throttle input, and available grip. From a standstill, the electric motor delivers instant torque, and in corners, it can intervene to stabilize the vehicle when needed.

Stealth mode allows the E-Ray to drive in pure electric mode for roughly 6–7 km at low speeds (under 72 km/h), ideal for quietly leaving a residential neighbourhood in the morning. That said, the E-Ray is far from a silent car… In normal driving, the sound of the V8 and its quad exhaust outlets is simply intoxicating — more aggressive than the Stingray, without reaching the sometimes-excessive intensity of the Z06.
Added confidence thanks to all-wheel drive
In a straight line, the E-Ray is formidable. The electric motor enables explosive launches, and the all-wheel-drive system provides added confidence, especially on cold or wet pavement. This sense of control, particularly in tight corners, is likely the E-Ray’s strongest argument. Objectively, it is difficult to perceive a clear improvement in handling compared with a Z06, but the experience is less stressful at high speed through curves.

The roughly 90 kg (200 lb) weight increase compared with the Stingray is not noticeable during quick transitions, thanks to immediate torque delivery and wide tires. Conversely, the E-Ray is easier to drive daily than the Z06. The LT2 V8 is more flexible and more civilized in city driving, and combined with electric assistance, it offers excellent low-speed responsiveness.
The standard magnetic ride dampers effectively absorb road imperfections, and the transmission is smooth and intuitive. You can drive the E-Ray every day, unlike other vehicles that deliver this level of performance.

That said, drivers seeking pure track sensations may find the E-Ray filters out too much excitement compared with a Z06. And even though it offers traction never before seen in a Corvette, it is not a winter vehicle in the strict sense: ground clearance remains limited, and suitable winter tires are very narrow. It is not necessary to store it all winter, but having a Plan B during a storm is wise.

Pricing and trims of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is offered in Coupe and Convertible versions, each available in three trims: 1LZ, 2LZ, and 3LZ. All versions are powered by the same 6.2-litre V8, paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 655 horsepower, and use a sophisticated all-wheel-drive hybrid system. Here is an overview of pricing and key trims offered.
| Trim | MSRP (Coupe) | Price (Convertible) |
| 1LZ AWD | $161,720 | $172,520 |
| 2LZ AWD | $170,720 | $181,520 |
| 3LZ AWD | $179,720 | $190,520 |
A supercar for everyday use… with a few caveats
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray redefines the role of the modern Corvette. It delivers blistering acceleration, head-turning design, and real-world versatility that very few performance cars of this calibre can offer. As the first hybrid and all-wheel-drive Corvette, it proves that electrification can amplify driving enjoyment without replacing it.

But make no mistake: it is not a better track car than the Z06. It offers no more cargo space than the Stingray. And its hybrid system, while effective and seamless, does not radically transform the cornering experience.
That said, if you are looking for a supercar that can be driven every day, stands out on the road, delivers performance beyond 99% of the market, and does so at a fraction of the price, the 2025 Corvette E-Ray is an option that is as intriguing as it is convincing.
