2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Arrives Next Month From $43k in Canada

Off-Road CX-50 goes hybrid

  • Hybrid CX-50 delivers 6.2 L/100 km

  • Uses Toyota hybrid system

Mazda has just announced its first hybrid. The 2025 Mazda CX-50 will be its first vehicle sold here with a hybrid driveline (without a plug). It goes on sale later this year, starting from $42,950.

The hybrid system comes from Toyota, meaning it’s one we’re very familiar with from models like the Highlander. It uses a 2.5L four-cylinder and three electric motors. One drives the front wheels, one the rear, and the third turns the engine’s power into electricity.

Mazda says it makes 219 hp and should deliver 6.2 L/100 km combined. The company also says it has tweaked the system to deliver the kind of acceleration feel and response buyers expect from Mazda, not Toyota. It will have Power and Trail drive modes and can tow 1,500 lbs. The Hybrid will be offered in GS-L trim and Kuro, as well as GT.

The rest of the 2025 CX-50 lineup gets Alexa Built-in with improved hands-free voice command responses. It also now has vehicle exit warnings and improved nighttime pedestrian detection.

Mazda will continue to offer the CX-50 for 2025 with a 2.5L gas engine with 187 hp in GS-L and GT grades, with a 256 hp 2.5L turbo-four on GT Turbo and Meridian models. Pricing for the base GS-L starts at $39,950, with a Meridian from $50,350. Expect them at dealers next month.
