Expect powertrains shared with CX-90
Two-row model to arrive next year
The CARB filings show a pair of 3.3L engines and a 2.5L engine. That matches up with the CX-90. Mazda fits the CX-90 with two versions of its 3.3L I6 turbo engine, one with 280 hp and one with 340 hp. It also has a 2.5L turbo-four attached to a plug-in hybrid drived system that delivers 323 hp and up to 26 miles of electric range.
Both I6 engines use a 48V mild hybrid system, and all three have an eight-speed automatic. It appears from the filings that all-wheel drive will be standard on all offerings.
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is expected to be a shorter two-row version of the CX-90. It’s based on the same rear-drive platform as the larger model, and it’s expected to match or possibly exceed the level of luxury equipment Mazda fitted to the CX-90.
While we don’t know when the model will arrive, we do know from the filings that the CX-70 will be a model year 2025 vehicle. That means it will likely be revealed early next year.
