2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Makes As Much Power as the Old E 63 S

Hot new E-Class gets V8-matching power

  • PHEV inline-six makes V8-matching power.

  • First AMG of the latest E-Class.

Mercedes-Benz has just launched the first AMG model of the new E-Class line. The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid is a 577 hp PHEV with one very confusing feature. Unlike the numerically higher C 63, the E-class model gets an inline-six.

The new E 53 is a massive upgrade under the hood compared with the last-generation E 53 model. That one made 429 hp with another 22 added on demand from the electric motor. This one gets 577 hp, with 604 hp available in Race Start mode. That’s enough to match the 4.0L V8 in the AMG E 63 S version of the last generation.

This new AMG does it with a 3.0L twin-turbo I6 that makes 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid motor adds 161 hp to that and 354 lb-ft of torque. It’s enough to rocket the Mercedes-AMG E 53 from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

It’s a PHEV model with a 28.6 kWh battery mounted under the trunk floor. The sedan will use 21.2 kWh of that for pure electric driving, with the rest held in reserve for the electric boost mode. Benz has yet to reveal a range estimate for the electric part of the driveline.

The rest of the sedan gets the AMG treatment, including 1.1 cm wider fenders, AMG-specific radiator trim, a rear spoiler, and larger wheels and tires. AMG Performance AWD is standard, as is rear-wheel steering.

On the inside, AMG adds open-pore ash trim with an AMG logo. The MBUX Superscreen is optional, but sports seats with contrast stitching are standard. Nappa leather is optional.

To launch the car, Mercedes-AMG is building an Edition 1 special for 2025. It comes in a special white paint with black graphiics, as well as extra exterior carbon bits, yellow interior accents, and a special car cover.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 hybrid is expected to arrive in Canada by the end of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
