2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe Gets 400+ hp Four-Cylinder

AMG model gets lighter, more agile

  • No PHEV power, but 416 hp might be enough

  • Four-cylinder gets RWD

Mercedes-Benz has just put its monster four-cylinder into its flagship sports car. The Mercedes-AMG GT coupe is now available in a 43 version with a 416 hp 2.0L turbo-four.

The 2025 AMG GT 43 Coupe is the third variant of the second-generation AMG GT and the first with a four-cylinder engine. It’s the first without a V8, as until now, every single AMG GT sold came with some version of the AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8.

It only has four pistons, but the hand-built engine is no slough. It makes 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s in the ballpark of the very first V8 GT, with half the displacement. It accomplishes the feat with features like an electric and exhaust-driven turbocharger that uses tech the company perfected in Formula 1.

The 2025 AMG GT 43 drops all-wheel drive and turns only the back tires through its nine-speed multi-clutch transmission. That cuts weight (and adds agility), allowing the car to hit 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Mercedes-AMG has fitted the car with a conventional steel spring and single-mode shock suspension. But for drivers wanting more performance and comfort, AMG Ride Control adaptive damping is available. The car also gets tricks like variable wall thickness sway bars and lightweight coil springs to help improve performance.

The 43 version will get its own front fascia. It will also get narrower fenders front and rear, with trim that’s unique to the smaller-engine model. The 2+2 rear seats will be optional, and it will still get AMG interior treatments like standard sports seats.

Mercedes said that it isn’t ready to give timing for the arrival of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe in Canada, but it is coming. Pricing will follow.
