2025 Volkswagen Golf 8.5 Arrives in January

New Golf tees off next month

  • Facelifted Golf will be on sale by spring

  • Volkswagen marking 50 years of Golf in 2024

Volkswagen is about to update the Golf. The Mk. 8 Volkswagen Golf gets a facelift update and we’ll see the result sometime in January.

2024 will be the first year for the facelifted version of the latest Golf, but it’s also the 50th anniversary of the model. More than 37 million vehicles wearing a Golf or Rabbit badge have been sold since the front-drive Beetle replacement bowed in 1974.

The automaker teased the updated Golf last week in a video that was a sort of 2023 VW year in review. A silhouette image showed a new lighting signature that we expected was the updated Golf, though the roof racks show that it was a Golf Variant, not the standard hatch. Variant is VW for Wagon.

Volkswagen says the 2024 Golf will get new assist systems and new powertrains as well as a cosmetic update. More importantly, it will get a next-gen infotainment system and new software behind it.

The current Golf, sold here only in GTI and Golf R forms, has taken serious heat for its infotainment system. The lack of physical controls combined with software that has seen plenty of complaints for poor operation has not met with much love from consumers.

Sales for the new model start in spring. Volkswagen will also celebrate the car’s 50th with displays of classics at shows around Europe. We expect more celebrations to be announced throughout the year, likely including special edition cars.
