2026 Outback Debuts 12.1-Inch Display, Snapdragon Processor, and Imprioved EyeSight Safety

All-new Outback features Subaru-exclusive infotainment system, expanded safety tech, and hands-free highway assist.

Subaru has unveiled a series of extensive technology upgrades starting with the debut of the 2026 Outback, featuring an all-new infotainment system, advanced driver-assist capabilities, and next-generation connectivity. Key changes include a redesigned 12.1-inch multimedia system, improved EyeSight safety functions, and new semi-autonomous driving features exclusive to higher trims.

The 2026 Outback introduces a new 12.1-inch Subaru-exclusive multimedia system offering higher resolution, improved brightness, and an anti-glare coating that reduces screen reflection by approximately 80% compared to the prior lamented 11.6-inch display.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Automotive processor, the system delivers up to 2.5 times faster performance, with memory increased to 8 GB and storage to 128 GB. The platform is said to be more responsive, with map swipes three times faster and audio transitions up to six times faster than the previous system.

Connectivity features include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Google Assistant, and SiriusXM 360L with a trial subscription. Select trims offer TomTom hybrid navigation and Android Auto integration with Google Maps. Drivers can customize vehicle settings such as climate, seat position, and drive mode via the touchscreen interface, with personalized profiles for individual users. A new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is also included.

The latest EyeSight system debuts with new functions, including acceleration override assist, front and side alert assist with braking, and for the first time in a Subaru model, Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection. If the system detects an unresponsive driver, it can slow the vehicle, move it to the shoulder, and contact emergency services automatically.

The 2026 Subaru Outback Will Start at $40,895 in Canada

Subaru’s second-generation DriverFocus distraction mitigation system adds a wider-angle, high-resolution camera and infrared tracking. The system also enables driver-recognition features like automatic seat and mirror adjustments for up to five users.

U.S. Touring and Touring XT Outback trims (standard on all versions in Canada) gain new advanced driver-assist systems combining radar, high-definition mapping, GPS, and camera data to support more complex driving tasks on major highways.

Key features include:

  • Highway Active Lane Change Assist: Engages at speeds over 80 km/h. If lane conditions are safe, signalling activates automatic lane changes.
  • Automatic Resume Assist: Restarts the vehicle after traffic stops up to 30 seconds without needing driver input.
  • Highway Hands-Free Assist: Allows limited hands-free operation at highway speeds, with DriverFocus monitoring for attention.
  • Pre-Curve Speed Control: Adjusts vehicle speed based on map data for smoother cornering.
  • Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection: Slows and moves the vehicle out of traffic if the driver becomes unresponsive.
