Unavoidable weight of an electric SUV
Numerous options… dangerous for the wallet
At Porsche, the GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) name has always served as a benchmark. An ideal model positioned between the 4S and the very powerful Turbo. It offers the advantages of one without the excesses of the other. Like in the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the GTS is the most comfortable bed, the porridge that’s just warm enough. With the Macan Electric, which arrived in 2024, the German brand is now trying to convince us that silence can also be sporty. A delicate mission, but not an impossible one. Keep in mind that more than one million Macan units have sold since its launch in 2013.
A different personality

The Macan GTS electric uses the Turbo’s rear motor to deliver a compromise between performance and price, a very relative notion at Porsche. Under launch control, output climbs to 563 hp and 704 lb-ft, with a 0–100 km/h time of about 3.8 seconds. In short, it’s quicker than the previous combustion-powered GTS, minus the engine sound. The 800V platform powers a 100-kWh battery (95 kWh usable) that can charge from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes on a 270-kW fast charger. Add 400V compatibility and interchangeable modules, and you get an SUV better prepared to age than many electronic gadgets in your home. Charging at 135 kW is a bit slower at 33 minutes. Porsche even planned a track mode that improves cooling to limit heat-related power loss; proof that some owners will actually attempt to take a 2.5-tonne SUV onto a circuit.
The law of silence

Two permanent-magnet motors and a 9:1 single-speed transmission turn this mastodon into a controllable projectile. The lowered air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management, Torque Vectoring Plus, and the electronic differential all work together to keep the centre of gravity low and deliver surprising agility for the category, along with excellent comfort despite the 22-inch wheels on our test vehicle. Among the interesting options: rear-axle steering. It’s no 911, but it’s probably one of the most engaging electric SUVs to drive, while retaining a pragmatic side with a towing capacity of 5,500 pounds (2,500 kg).
Interior: junior Cayenne in a sports suit

The cabin takes inspiration from the Cayenne and offers Race-Tex upholstery, leather, multi-adjustable sport seats, and stitching matched to the body colour. On the technology front, you get a digital phone key, AI-assisted voice control, new parking-assist functions, and even telemetry via the Sport Chrono package. We’re talking about a very digital driving environment… but fortunately still driver-focused, a concept that sometimes disappears in the world of electric SUVs.
Sportier on the outside

Compared with other electric Macan models, the GTS adds black accents, standard 21-inch wheels (optional 22-inch on our vehicle), wider side skirts, and a more pronounced diffuser. Porsche hasn’t reinvented the styling; it has simply darkened it. The front end dips a little more. Overall, the GTS looks a bit angrier.
Take a deep breath

The Macan GTS electric starts at about $122,100, with deliveries expected in summer 2026. Our test vehicle, fitted with a long list of options and subject to the luxury tax, came in at $156,100. Some options, like the $410 rear wiper, raise eyebrows. Others, such as the $2,320 rear-axle steering, are worth the money. Our GTS interior alone totals more than $7,000, and the 22-inch wheels add $3,260. In other words: take it easy in the configurator… and prepare for a second emotional mortgage.
Conclusion

The Macan GTS electric pulls off quite a feat: making a silent utility vehicle desirable to buyers who still swear by mechanical hardware. It’s quick, it charges fast, and it drives like a Porsche product. But above all — and this may be its greatest achievement — it gives the impression that the electric transition is not a punishment. And you’ll have a stated range of 488 km in good conditions, naturally.
