Nissan is turning the Rogue into a multi-powertrain nameplate, but the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power is the version that most clearly changes what the compact SUV will become. Instead of using the gasoline engine to help drive the wheels through a transmission, Nissan’s e- Power setup uses electric motors alone for propulsion. The engine’s job is to generate electricity.
That distinction matters because Rogue’s current North American lineup is still rooted in the third-generation model introduced for 2021. Nissan refreshed it for 2024, and it continues through the 2025 and 2026 model years in conventional gasoline form.
As we wait for the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power, Nissan has already introduced the 2026 Rogue PHEV, already on sale. The PHEV gives Nissan an electrified Rogue now, but it is glaringly an alliance-sourced Outlander PHEV derivative, built by Mitsubishi Motors and sold under the Rogue nameplate. It adds charging capability, a 20-kWh battery and three-row packaging, but it is not the same product strategy as e-Power.
The new e-Power Rogue will undoubtedly take over the moment it arrives. The new Rogue model uses a third-generation version of its series-hybrid system tuned for North America. Two electric motors drive the vehicle, standard dual-motor AWD is included, and there is no conventional transmission. This will translate into the qualities usually associated with an EV rather than a typical compact hybrid: immediate response off the line, linear acceleration, quieter operation and fewer powertrain interruptions during stop-and-go use.
Nissan is also using the new Rogue to push chassis-control features that fit the electric-drive layout. The dual-motor AWD system is designed to vary torque and braking more precisely front-to-rear and side-to-side, while balanced regenerative braking can help reduce pitch during deceleration. e-Pedal will return as well, allowing one-pedal operation in many low-speed situations.
The supplied teaser image shown above shows a very smooth-looking compact EV with surfaces similar to those of both the Ariya and the LEAF, however, with a distinct visual lighting signature.
If anything, Nissan must be very anxious and looking forward to offering the Rogue e-Power to the North American compact SUV market. Nissan Canada posted an 11.29% sales drop in Q1 of 2026, including an 8.5% decline in Rogue sales. Nissan USA clocked a 7.5% decline however Rogue sales increased by 13%.
Clearly, the 2027 Rogue e-POWER model is extremely important for Nissan’s long-term identity. Late 2026 can’t come soon enough.
