The Kia EV3 will be built on the E-GMP platform, offering 58.3 and 81.4 kWh batteries.
This small electric SUV will be larger than the Soul, but slightly smaller than the Niro.
Technology will be a big selling point, with an AI assistant, Digital Key 2.0, and Vehicle-2-Load features, among others.
When it launched the EV6 almost four years ago, Kia promised a range of related electric crossovers and SUVs to follow. The three-row EV9 was the second model to join the lineup and the upcoming EV5 compact crossover should reach our market later this year. Not resting on its laurels, Kia has announced a fourth model in its new electric family: the EV3.
Here are the answers to five questions about this upcoming subcompact electric SUV.
1- Where will the 2026 EV3 be positioned in Kia’s lineup?

The 2026 Kia EV3 will be positioned between the Soul and the Niro in terms of size, with a length of 4,300 millimetres, a width of 1,850 mm, a height of 1,560 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. This means it will be slightly shorter and lower, but 25 mm wider than the current Niro EV. Its wheelbase will also be 40 mm shorter than the Niro’s. Cargo space is said to be best-in-class, with 460 litres at the back and an additional 25 litres under the hood. We don’t know how much the EV3 will cost on the Canadian market, but it is significantly more affordable than the Niro EV when comparing entry-level models in France and the U.K., which could suggest a similar strategy here.
2- What kind of range and charging specs can we expect from the 2026 Kia EV3?

While we don’t have specifics for the Canadian version, the 2026 Kia EV3 can be had in global markets with a choice of two battery sizes depending on the trim level. More affordable versions are powered by a 58.3 kWh battery and more expensive Long Range models feature a larger 81.4 kWh unit. As a comparison, the Niro EV has a 64.8 kWh battery. Kia says the EV3 will be able to drive up to 600 kilometers on a charge according to the optimistic WLTP testing cycle. Real world figures should be closer to 500 kilometres. Despite making use of the same E-GMP platform as the EV6 and EV9, the EV3 will forgo the 800-volt charging architecture, likely as a cost-cutting measure. This means that charging will be slower than in those other Kia models, but still within the norms for a modern EV, with a manufacturer-estimated time of 31 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 % at a level 3 station.
3- Which technologies and features will be available on the EV3?

Even if the EV3 will be one of its most affordable electric vehicles, Kia hasn’t skimped on high-tech features for this model. Indeed, the crossover will be the brand’s first electric model to feature an AI-based voice-controlled assistant, which will only be available in Korea and Europe at first. The Digital Key 2.0 system is expected to be offered in Canada from the start, allowing owners to leave their key fob at home and to share access to the vehicle with friends and family via text messages. The EV3 will also feature a Vehicle-2-Load function that will make it possible to use the energy stored in the high-voltage battery to power devices such as laptops, power tools, or even a small fridge. A Harman Kardon sound system will be available and two 12,3-inch screens will be placed on top of the instrument panel, on each side of a five-inch dedicated climate control screen, like in the EV9. The EV3 will also benefit from a 12-inch head-up display, the latest version of Kia’s i-Pedal regenerative braking system, the remote parking feature which makes it possible to move the vehicle forward and back via buttons on the key fob, and a long list of driver assistance features.
4- What can we expect from the design of the 2026 Kia EV3?

Unsurprisingly, the 2026 Kia EV3 takes quite a few design cues from the EV9 and the EV5. This means that this small SUV will feature a fairly angular appearance, with squared-off black wheel arches, geometric pattern alloy wheels, taillamps that follow the contours of the rear window and fenders, as well as rear door handles which are hidden in the black window surround, reminiscent of the new K4 sedan. Inside, the EV3 will once again show strong family cues taken from the EV9 and EV5, with a horizontal-themed dashboard that incorporates a row of physical controls in the middle along with a large open area in place of a traditional center console.
5- When will the 2026 Kia EV3 arrive in Canada?

The 2026 Kia EV3 is already on sale in South Korea and in Europe, but we will have to wait quite a bit longer for the first units to land on this side of the ocean. Indeed, Kia Canada hasn’t announced any concrete dates, but estimates say this model could reach the country in late 2025 at the earliest, and quite possibly only in 2026.
Final Canadian specifications and pricing should be announced a few months or weeks prior to the EV3’s introduction, so stay tuned for more details.
