700,000 2018 VW Tiguan and Touran recalled over possible fire risks

Recalls are never fun, especially if you’ve just picked up your brand new vehicle that you waited 6 weeks to get. Before going on, know that the Touran is a compact minivan that is obviously not sold in North America.

The recall has been issued because it was discovered that an LED module in the light strip hasn’t been well insulated in models equipped with the optional panoramic roof and ambient lighting.

The NHTSA stated that: “The LED module for the panoramic sunroof ambient light bar may short circuit and that it can increase the risk of fire.” Only a temporary fix is available at the moment and it involves disconnecting the power supply to the panoramic sunroof LED module.

Let’s hope for Tiguan owners that the actual remedy will not involve the removal of too much interior trim… Things are never quite the same, read rattle-free, after this kind of job.
