A Hybrid C8 Chevrolet Corvette Spied Driving About

The hybrid-powered Chevrolet Corvette looks like it’s on its way.

  • Will have over 800-horsepower and more than 900 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • Reveal should occur later this year.
  • May very well earn the ZR1 badge.

Last November, we reported that rumours about an electrified new C8 Corvette were swirling on the internet and now, spy shots seem to confirm that Chevrolet will be going in this direction. A hybrid C8 Corvette should meet both desires for impressive fuel consumption and emissions and, more importantly, help the already fast car reach new highs.

Since our story, the death of the Cadillac 4.2-litre Blackwing V8 has been confirmed, leaving all to speculate that a specifically prepared 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 will in the place currently reserved for the LT2 6.2-litre V8. Output is said to reach a total system combination of 838-horsepower and 922 lb.-ft. of torque. Assumingly, this AWD (electric motors up front) could end up being the top-trim ZR1 however there’s one issue with the spy shots as shared by EVO: the car lacks aerodynamic add-ons necessary to make it a ZR1.

Now, it could be that this unit serves only as a mule for the powertrain and not outright performance. If, however, the output numbers are right, we might be looking at the Z06 which leads to think that a ZR1 may get closer to 1,000-horsepower…

If anything, Chevrolet’s done exactly what it set out to do with the new C8 and that is create a serious and lasting buzz.
