- Sherbrooke Mayor wanted an EV but Infiniti EVs are still about two years out.
- Sherbrooke Infiniti found a solution: Selling the mayor a Tesla Model 3.
- This news story is huge for Sherbrooke Infiniti, something of a blow to Infiniti.
We at Motor Illustrated all spotted the post on Facebook last Friday but decided (wrong decision perhaps…) not to write up a story as we felt uncomfortable. We thought it wrong to shine a spotlight on Infiniti’s lack of product and on the dealership’s near-sighted stab at the brand it represents. The intentions were good, we get it, but an Infiniti dealer selling a Tesla Model 3 seems wrong on many levels.
There’s an important fact that needs to be brought up. Actually, it was noted by the OP following numerous comments and that is that the Model 3 in question was a used car, and not a new one as initially thought. Reading the original post itself is somewhat misleading and this new bit of information was only added yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
Even so, we’re guessing that Infiniti Canada’s contacted Sherbrooke Infiniti, the dealership in question, and have held a discussion on the wisdom behind boasting about this transaction. At the moment, as of writing these lines, the post is still up on the store’s Facebook page.
There is, after all, nothing wrong with the transaction. It will have served as a promotional tool for both the dealership and the mayor. It also demonstrates that carefully wording a post can make all the difference, and potentially avoid a certain level of ridicule.
