The third generation of Honda’s pickup truck is in the works, with its launch planned before July 2028.
This model is said to feature a more rugged design than the current Ridgeline.
Production of the second-generation Ridgeline is set to end later this year as the Alabama factory prepares for the new model.
Despite being launched twenty years ago, the Honda Ridgeline is still only in its second generation in 2026.
This is about to change, however, as the automaker confirmed earlier today that a third generation of its unibody mid-size pickup will be launched within two years.
Very little information has filtered through for now, but we know that the next Ridgeline will feature a more rugged design than the current model, likely inspired by the mechanically related Passport.

Honda has also confirmed that this model is being designed in California and engineered in Ohio, which isn’t surprising, considering that the United States is by far this truck’s largest market.
A shadowy teaser picture has been revealed, but not much can be gleaned from it, except that the next Ridgeline will keep similar proportions to its predecessor. The front end does appear more squared off than the current Ridgeline, which suggests it could use a similar front clip to that of the new Passport.
The third generation of the Honda pickup is also said to be more capable than the current model.

No technical details have been announced, but given that Honda is betting big on Hybrids now that it has completely pulled back from electric vehicles, the next Ridgeline is likely to feature a hybrid powertrain.
In fact, Honda teased a new V6 hybrid engine for large models last year, which it said would come to market in North America in the second half of the 2020s. This would align well with the launch of the next Ridgeline, which is expected to be marketed as a 2028 model year vehicle.
The automaker is targeting a 10% improvement in full-throttle acceleration as well as a 30% efficiency improvement with this hybrid engine compared to current V6-powered models.

Like the current Ridgeline, the next generation of the unibody pickup will be manufactured in Alabama, alongside the Pilot, the Passport, and the Odyssey.
Production of the current model will end later this year in order for the factory to prepare for the arrival of the new model, which suggests the Ridgeline nameplate might skip the 2027 model year, as it had done with the 2015 and 2016 model years when transitioning from the first to the second generation.
More details are expected to be revealed over the coming months.
