A Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Might Become The Purest Porsche

Less weight, more power, and aero, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS will not be for the faint of heart

  • A Porsche RS is the ultimate street-legal race-ready spec.

  • The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is already one of the all-time great driving cars.

The only car better than a Porsche is a Porsche RS. That is if all-out performance and handling are the measures of the best Porsche. Currently, the 718 Cayman is offered in GT4 guise which indicates that this is the ultimate iteration of the mid-engined Porsche. This will soon change when the 718 gets its first-ever RS version.

Details on the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS are scarce as the car has not yet been officially announced. Plenty of test-mules have been spotted so far this year shod with massive aero in the form of an even more imposing rear spoiler, NACA ducts on the front bonnet, and extra air intake scoops all over.

The current Cayman GT4 is powered by the incredible naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre flat-6-cylinder engine. In this version, it produces 414 horsepower and 309 lb.-ft. of torque. For the RS, based on CarBuzz’s guess, should deliver somewhere around 450 horsepower. The transmission of choice will surely be the 7-speed PDK for absolute speed however it’s possible that Porsche will see fit to offer the 6-speed manual as an option.

The 718’s layout and legendary balance should make the RS an incredible track-focused supercar killer.
