In Europe, 28% of all BMW vehicles sold through June have been electric.
This performance is due in large part to the arrival of the Neue Klasse.
Sales of the iX3 are about equal to those of the gas-powered X3 at the moment.
A few months after having produced its two-millionth electric vehicle, BMW shows no signs of stopping, as the company experiences a healthy increase in electrified sales.
Indeed, the German automaker says it saw sales of electric vehicles climb 38% to 81,445 in the second quarter of 2026 in Europe alone.
Much of this is due to the arrival of the iX3 electric SUV, the first member of the eagerly anticipated Neue Klasse family of vehicles.
On its own, the iX3 has now received almost 100,000 orders, and the company says it currently sells about as many iX3s as it does the gasoline-powered X3.
BMW i3 Pre-Series | Photo: BMWThe iX3 itself represents a third of all BMW electric sales in Europe, despite the company having a fairly strong lineup of electric models, with the i4, i5, i7, and iX being widely available at the moment.
BMW is also about to add the Neue Klasse i3 and iX5 to this range of electric cars, which should further help increase its EV market share.
In the first half of 2026, 28% of all vehicles the company sold on its home continent were powered by electricity. This means more than a quarter of the company’s sales now come from electric vehicles in Europe, something it shares with Mercedes-Benz.
2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EQIndeed, BMW’s main German rival has also seen a recent jump in EV sales, its own electric models accounting for 26% of its global sales for the second quarter of the year.
This is the result of a 51% increase in EV sales, to 52,900 units.
Here again, this performance is driven by a list of anticipated new electric models reaching the market in the last few months, starting with the new CLA EQ.
Combined, BMW and Mercedes-Benz’s EV sales show a return of the enthusiasm around electric vehicles, which had cooled considerably in 2025.
