A new 20th-anniversary edition Golf R was introduced for Europe a few days ago.
Canada’s first Golf R was the MK6 which launched in 2012.
The US was privy to the MK5 Golf R32.
At the very least, we will see some special badges. Volkswagen Canada is reportedly looking into introducing its own anniversary or special edition Golf R but it’s unlikely to feature as many upgrades as the European version.
One main reason for this is that the Canadian Volkswagen Golf R is already loaded to the hilt as the Performance package is part of the base package. As standard, it features a large body-coloured rear spoiler, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, leather sport seats, and several other elements which are typically not included in the base car in other markets.
In fact, short of the optional blue-surface finish wheels, genuine carbon fibre interior trim, and badges, we’ve already got a near special-edition Golf R. One item visible in the Golf R 20 Years Edition image gallery is the available Akrapovic titanium sport exhaust system. This option is not offered in North America yet.
If we had a say or a wish for our special anniversary edition Golf R, we’d like the sports exhaust system and the extra 13 horsepower. Please, and thank you.
