This is the first Type-S version of the largest SUV from Acura
The Type-S is powered by an exclusive turbocharged V6 engine
The MDX Type-S will arrive at dealers in the US in December
The Acura MDX has entered a new generation for 2022 and for the first time, a sporty Type-S version is offered.
The MDX Type-S stays true to its sporting pretentions by having a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine under the hood. Coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this engine sends 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.
The SH-AWD system can now send up to 70% of the torque to the rear axle and 100% of that torque can be sent to either of the rear wheels in order to help cornering at speeds.
The suspension is also designed to provide the performance that are expected of a vehicle branded Type-S. It is the first air suspension ever used on an Acura vehicle. Its benefits include being able to adapt to driving conditions to provide stable cornering and comfortable dampening.
In addition, this suspension can be raised through one of the seven selectable drive modes in order to more easily drive over obstacles or in deep snow.
The braking system is important in a vehicle that claims good performance, so the MDX Type-S is equipped with Brembo 4-piston brake calipers in the front and an electric brake servo inspired by the one used in the NSX.
On the inside, the MDX Type-S reflects its flagship status with a suite of standard equipment, both in the driver assistance category, such as traffic jam assist, and in the luxury category, like massaging front seats.
The first units of the MDX Type-S will reach American dealerships in December of this year with a price tag said to be in the high $60,000.
