An Acura NSX Type R May Be Coming

An NSX Type R would certainly fan the flame of passion for Acura enthusiasts. Sadly, there are few of them.

This is an old rumour that dates back to right around the time the production NSX was revealed some four years ago. Of all automotive rumours, this one makes more sense than sense and it would appear as though there will be an Acura NSX Type R in the not too distant future.

Have you noticed a resurgence of advertising from Acura and specifically on the NSX over the last few months? In said last few months, Acura invited members of the media to tour the NSX’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio. Many stories and beautiful pictures came about from the visit. Suddenly, the NSX is “back.”

These efforts on behalf of Honda lead us to believe that they want to make sure the world notices the arrival of a super-NSX in the hopes of drumming up sales. It’s no secret that the 2nd generation NSX is a failure sales-wise, despite the car being nothing short of exceptional.

If, or is that when, the Acura NSX Type R arrives, it is said that it will borrow a number of components from the NSX GT3 race car’s race-spec engine, for a total of 641-system horsepower. It will also get extra aero and other must-have go-fast bits.
