Acura Shows Off Prototype ZDX Ahead of Full EV Reveal

Acura's first EV in final testing ahead of launch

  • Acura’s first EV getting closer to production

  • Brand plans Type S performance model

Acura is teasing its first EV. The 2024 Acura ZDX is being shown off in photos that show the electric crossover in camouflage, undergoing testing in real-world conditions.

We still can’t see all that much in the camouflaged photos. One of the big advantages that prototype EVs have over gas cars is that there’s no need to make a cutout to make sure the engine and cooling system can get enough air, so it’s well hidden.

We can see approximately four billion letters S on the wrap, in all different directions. That’s to let you know that there will be a Type S performance variant of the 2024 ZDX EV. Following the performance lead of the TLX Type S, MDX Type S, and the Acura Integra Type S models.

The styling is based on the Acura Precision EV concept that the brand showcased earlier this year. We’ve included a few photos of that one to show off the lines and the illuminated grille that we expect will make production in some form.

Acura’s first EV will be built on the same platform as the Honda Prologue EV, and it is being developed in partnership with GM. The ZDX and its platform-mates will use GM’s Ultium battery technology that will be used by that company on everything from the Equinox EV to the Hummer EV. And those are just the ones already announced.

Expect the vehicle to be revealed in full in 2023. Early in the year, if they’re ready to show us prototypes with this level of disguise.
