Kimi, Gionivazzi pose with Giulia GTA
F1 season starts this weekend
Alfa gives credit to the team’s two F1 drivers, Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, for the final handling balance of the extreme GTA. At least in their assessment of the car’s dynamics and how they helped with the fine-tuning.
The Giulia GTA road car benefited from the help of the Sauber F1 team including their know-how in prototyping and developing the carbon fibre parts including the m’s signature enormous wing. The standard GTA is a celebration of 110 years of Alfa Romeo with a carbon roof, hood, bumper, wheel arches, massive diffuser, and lightweighting including Lexan in place of glass. The GTAm takes the hard-core Giulia a step further by removing the rear seats and adding helmet storage, a fire extinguisher, six-point harnesses, and the gigantic carbon wing you see in the photos. GTA stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerita, which is Italian for lightened, not a fancy umbrella drink, and this year’s car is a tribute to the original sports racer to wear the name in 1965.
To celebrate, Kimi will be wearing GTA on his overalls for the first race of the season this Sunday in Bahrain. Giovinazzi’s white and red will wear a GTAm lettering. The Sauber Alfa Romeo C1 completed the most laps in pre-season testing and had a driver in the top six for all three of the test days, putting the team on a strong footing for the start of the 2021 season.
